The Sale Arrangements

Interested?

Then simply use the Contact Us page to introduce yourself and start a dialogue. We have already heard from various organisations and collectors who are interested in the sale, and received various offers and opportunties. Some of these enquiries involve splitting up the collection, which is something we would prefer not to do, so at this stage it would be better for potential buyers to keep this in mind.

Valuation

This is the difficult bit - especially as the investment market for vintage computing equipment is rapidly accelerating at the same time as the availability of good examples is shrinking. Reports of single rare Nintendo game cartridges fetching £10,000's were in the press recently, and the asking price for a second-hand Jupiter ACE on eBay today is approaching £1000 (Item 291019836436, currently at £899). Artifacts from this era are also big news - such as the drawing board used during the design of the Spectrum now being on display at the Science Museum in London.

The collection being offered here includes over 200 cassettes that are not just "rare", but absolutely unique, and more then that, this is a full set of everything for one very significant machine - development software, hardware & original documents.

Conditions

This website and the description of the items have been made in good faith and are considered accurate, but errors and omissions may be present. Some of the tapes have just been tested and mostly found to work, however, the buyer needs to remember that these items are now over 30 years old and may have deteriorated, so no warranty can be given. The transfer of ownership from Jupiter Cantab to Boldfield Computing in 1984 is an undisputed historic fact, but no surviving documentation has been found for this. However, the Receiver's assistant who actually handled the transfer has been traced and is willing to verify his role in the process. The rights to the Jupiter ACE project remain with the original directors of Boldfield having been specifically excluded from the sale of Boldfield's IT solution business in 2006, and there is documentary proof of this available for inspection to the buyer. The sale arrangements, and the decision whether to sell or not to any particular buyer, are subject to change and under the sole control of the existing owners.

Collection

The items being sold are all stored together in the Cambridge area, and it is expected that the buyer will collect them personally or through an agent, taking full responsibility for any packing or handling involved.
